The weekend was full of up and down’s for Creighton sports.

The women started the excitement on a high note Friday night as the Volleyball team came back and won in exciting fashion on the road against Indiana St.  in a 5-set thriller.  Meanwhile, at Morrison Stadium, the Women’s Soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 win against the Sycamores on Kelly Connolly’s goal in the 67th minute.  The Men’s Soccer team didn’t want to get left out and also won the first game in the Husky Fever Classic with a similar 1-0 victory over Washington.

Saturday morning, the  Women’s Cross Country team finished fourth out of six teams down in Crete and the men only raced four runners  in the team’s warmup before heading to the Notre Dame Invitational next weekend.  Meanwhile, the Women’s Tennis team finished up their first fall contest with Sarah Cadwallader and Tess Reddin teaming up for a 3-1 record in the A doubles draw, taking home the consolation title at Drake.

The rest of the weekend wasn’t so bright for the fall squads.  The Volleyball team had to turn right around Friday night and travel to Illinois St. for a Saturday afternoon matchup against the Redbirds which for the second match in a row went five sets, but this time Creighton was on the wrong end of the stick losing that one.

The weekend finished with disappointing losses on Sunday as the Women’s Soccer team went on the road and suffered a loss to Northern Colorado, while the Men’s Soccer team completed competition in the Husky Fever Classic with a 2-1 loss against Portland dropping them to 2-2-1.

This leads the fall sports into October and Homecoming festivities this week and into the weekend.    Both Soccer teams, the Volleyball team and both Tennis teams will be in action around campus.    It is a great time for fans to come out and cheer the fall sports teams.
