  • 4:30 p.m CT Friday
  • 3:00 p.m. CT Saturday
  • 3:00 p.m. CT Sunday

Creighton is currently in the midst of a 10-game roadtrip on the west coast.  It is viewed sort of as a “Spring Break” trip where the weather is usually nice.  After the trip to UC Davis this weekend, the Bluejays will play in Berkeley against California on Tuesday and in Sacramento against Sacramento State on Wednesday before finishing out with a weekend series next weekend against Pacific.

After this long grind they will make their season debut at TD Ameritrade park on Tuesday, March 13th against BYU

Last Weekend..

The Creighton Bluejay baseball team were stumbled up last week as they started their 10-game west coast swing.  Not only was the weather a mess, but the Bluejays lost both games that they were able to fit in against Portland.  Creighton lost a 2-0 lead late in the first game to eventually lose in 10 innings.  The second game was rained out and the third  game was a 5-3 loss.

Historically…

This is the first meeting ever against UC Davis.  Creighton is 3-4 all-time against the Big West Conference.  With the trip to Pacific next weekend, the Bluejays will have played six more games against the conference.

On the Mound

  • Friday: Creighton’s LHP Ty Blach(1-0, 0.69 ERA) vs. UC-Davis’ LHP Dayne Quist (1-0, 1.88 ERA)
  • Saturday: Creighton’s RHP Brandon Koenigstein (0-1, 5.62 ERA) vs.  UC-Davis’ LHP Anthony Kupbens (0-1, 4.63 ERA)
  • Sunday: Creighton’s RHP Andrew Urban (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. UC-Davis’ RHP Tom Briner (1-1, 3.46 ERA)

The Creighton bullpen struggled a bit last weekend with Kurt Spomer and Reece McGraw giving up runs late to Portland in the first game to send it to extra innings.   Creighton will go with their top three starters for this series, but Coach Ed Servais is going to have the challenge of managing his pitchers over this next week with eight games in 10 days.  It will take a total team effort to get the pitching staff through this stretch.

At the Plate

Alex Staehely had the best success at the plate last weekend going 3-for-9 at the plate with a couple of runs batted in.  The Creighton bats were limited in Sunday’s finale where they only garnered 7 hits in the 5-3 loss.  Scott Thornburg had two of those hits to go along with an RBI.

Weather Forecast

After suffering through a lot of rain last weekend in Portland, things are looking up for a beautiful California weekend.
