Darian Harris spent last weekend playing Toby Henger’s teammate in Creighton’s team camp activities. This time next year, he will join Henger in Omaha again, to start a career as a Creighton Bluejay.
Harris, a guard/forward recruit from Springdale, Arkansas, verbally committed to Greg McDermott and the CU coaching staff following a trip to Omaha. Spurning the likes of Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Tulsa, Harris decided to follow his feelings and give the Jays their second commit for the class of 2013.
“It just felt right,” Harris said about his commitment, which came just days after the camp. “I prayed a lot and it felt right.”
The 6’6” Harris, a product of Shiloh Christian High School and the Arkansas Wings AAU program, will follow 2012-13 redshirt freshman Nevin Johnson in the role of a swing perimeter player. Harris has experience at multiple positions and can score, defend, and affect the game in each.

“The coaches see me playing the one, the two, and the three,” Harris said. “They like to get up and down the floor, so if I get the ball I can just go. And I can come of screens and hit shots.”
Harris said he is a shooter first, but that he can handle the ball. “I’m versatile, and I like to pass.”
He knows he needs to get stronger — he’s listed currently at 185 lbs. — so he can guard multiple positions. But with his college choice behind him before his senior season, he can turn his full attention to improving his conditioning and his all-around game for the next level.
