Highlight Reel: Evansville, Illinois State & Indiana State

Playing three games in eight days to open the MVC schedule, Creighton went 3-0 as they moved to 14-1 overall for the first time since 2002-03. First up was Evansville, a team that nearly derailed Senior Night a year ago. This one was not nearly as dramatic, thanks to the dominance of the Jays’ frontcourt — in 23 minutes, Gregory Echenique scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while also blocking a few UE shots, and Doug McDermott scored 29 points and chipped in 10 boards in 32 minutes. Here’s the highlight reel from the game:

Next, the Jays hit the road to take on the team picked in the preseason to finish second in the MVC, Illinois State. Early on, it was the Grant Gibbs Show, but the game soon became a showcase for Ethan Wragge’s sharpshooting. Wragge went 6-9 from deep against ISU, making as many three-pointers in 21 minutes against the Redbirds as he made in 87 minutes of action during his previous 5 games. This is a fun highlight reel to re-watch, especially to see how far out Wragge was on a couple of his threes.

Back at home, Creighton hosted the Indiana State Sycamores, a team that gave the Bluejays all they could handle for 3/4 of the game. After scoring just 27 points in the first half, they turned it on after the break, outscoring the Trees 52-39. Creighton scored 52 second-half points, making 8-13 from three-point range. Here’s the highlight reel from a fun afternoon at the CLink:
