The #3 Creighton’s men’s soccer team hits the road for a ranked showdown with #12 Georgetown. The Bluejays played their fourth straight double overtime match on Tuesday in a 2-2 tie against Michigan State. Georgetown is hosting Creighton for their homecoming and have had a full seven days of rest.
On, Saturday, Elmar Bolowich’s team hits the pitch looking to continue their early success in the Big East. WBR caught up with Bolowich to recap this week’s result against Michigan State and look ahead to the Hoyas at noon on Saturday.
White & Blue Review: It has been a long stretch for Creighton as you have played your last 4 games into double overtime. Was fatigue a factor against Michigan State?
Elmar Bolowich: Yes, we were very spent on Tuesday night. Also, Michigan State did not have a weekend game and were very fresh going into that game. We were very tired.
WBR: We all saw forwards Sean Kim in street clothes on Tuesday night and Zabarle Kollie was absent from the bench. Do you have any update on either of those players?
EB: Kim has an ACL issue and is out for the year. Kollie is in a boot but could be back as early as Monday.
WBR: We discussed prior to the season starting that travel and fatigue was going to be a concern of yours throughout the season. We also talked about the fact that because of travel expenses, you would have a reduced roster for road games. With the combination of injuries, fatigue and reduced rosters, how do you see this weekend playing out with a big trip to #16 Georgetown?
EB: Well, we will have a reduced roster and two of the guys staying back will be Kollie and Kim. They will be missed as they are two of our strikers that we liked rotating in to keep the legs fresh up top. We will need to play around with some of the subbing and where we have our personnel. We may look at having Vincent (Keller) up top a bit more or even a combination of Fabian (Herbers) and Timo (Pitter). We will be fine.
WBR: Georgetown came into the season pretty hyped as they are coming off their run to the championship of the College Cup. What can we expect to see in the game on Saturday afternoon?
EB: This will be a good game. Georgetown should be well rested as they did not have a mid-week game. It will be their Homecoming game and will be chomping at the bit to get out there and play. This is also their first conference game, and as mentioned before, every conference game will be important in this league. Will be a tough game, but if we can clean a few things up, we should be in good shape.
WBR: Are you pleased with the record so far?
EB: Well, considering the schedule, I am O.K. with it. You look back and we have a game I felt we should have won against William and Mary. We gave up two awful goals against Michigan State. 5-1-1 at this point, it is O.K.
