Today in Bluejay History (11/30)

November 30, 2005 — DePaul punishes Creighton 72-57 in an ugly game that would have even uglier consequences on the rest of the 05-06 season.

Sure, there were some good things to come from the loss in suburban Chicago. Anthony Tolliver scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Josh Dotzler got his first start as a Bluejay, scoring 7 points, dishing 5 assists, and swiping 3 steals.

But Jimmy Motz (1-10) and Johnny Mathies (1-10) combined to go 2-20 from the field. And Nate Funk scored 13 points but would leave with a shoulder injury that would cost him a medical redshirt. He would try to come back during the first weekend of 2006, but games at Illinois State and Bradley were too much to bear and Funk shut it down for the remainder of the season.

The injury had a ripple effect into the next season, though. With Funk back for his redshirt senior season and Tolliver and Dane Watts returning, the Bluejays would earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament the following year.
