After a wild and crazy week last week in Summer League, with several games coming down to the wire on Thursday, this week should be just as entertaining. The final pool play games resume on Monday night with several great match-ups before the tournament starts on Thursday.
For the Creighton fans looking for Bluejays in action, they will be matched up in different games making it easy to choose what to watch. There is also a match-up between the two teams that may battle it out in the tournament finals.
Here is what is in store for Monday night.
Game of the Night
7:00 p.m. Court 1: Bank of Nebraska (4-1) vs. Andy’s Lawncare (4-1)
Bluejays to Watch: Justin Carter (Bank of Nebraska)
After losing on opening night, Bank of Nebraska has been on a roll, winning four in a row. The defending champs look like they are ready to look for back to back championships. Last week they struggled without Wes Wilkinson, but they should be back to full force this week.
On the other side of the court is an Andy’s Lawncare team that looks pretty much unstoppable, and that is even without some of their players. They have had back-to-back 100+ point games and last Thursday, they did it with basically five players on the team. John Turek was unstoppable last week along with great, even contribution from the others including league organizer, Jason Isaacson.
Creighton Heavy Games
8:00 p.m. Court 2: Zurlo’s (4-1) vs. Narmi Group @ Baird (2-3)
Bluejays to Watch: Toby Hegner (Zurlo’s), Mo Watson (Zurlo’s), Avery Dingman (Narmi), Ronnie Harrell (Narmi)
Zurlo’s has been the fun Creighton team to watch this summer with Watson and Hegner leading the way with speed and outside shooting, respectively. Harrell is already showing his leadership after putting together a team at the last minute on Thursday to almost upset Bank of Nebraska. This is your early game to get to the Omaha Sports Academy for.
8:00 p.m. Court 1: Judd Knispel Agency (3-2) vs. Shanks Law Firm (0-5)
Bluejays to Watch: Nick Bahe (Judd), Matt Dorwart (Judd), Austin Chatman (Judd), James Milliken (Shanks), Tyler Clement (Shanks)
It is hard to tell who is going to show up for the Nick Bahe All-Stars on Monday night. Anthony Tolliver and Ali Farohkmanesh played last week with the team. Jahenns Manigat played the first two weeks of the league. Basically if you want to see some Bluejays and maybe some surprises during the 8PM time slot, then this is the game you will want to watch.
9:00 p.m. Court 1: Paragas Law Firm (3-2) vs. EQ School of Hair Design (2-3)
Bluejays to Watch: Will Artino (Paragas), Ricky Kreklow (Paragas), Leon Gilmore (EQ), Zach Hanson (EQ)
Artino might be back after suffering an ankle injury last week, but if he is there, it will be interesting to see how Artino and Kreklow matchup with Gilmore and Hanson. Hanson has had a solid summer, almost quietly showing what he might be able to do in a full time role for the Bluejays next season.
9:00 p.m. Court 2: John Higgins Weatherguard (2-3) vs. Winning Mentality (3-2)
Bluejays to Watch: Devin Brooks (Higgins), Geoff Groselle (Higgins)Antoine Young (Winning)
If you want an up and down game, this is the one for you. Brooks has been fun to watch all summer. Groselle had a heck of a game on Thursday against the likes of Anthony Tolliver in the post. Both teams could be a surprise in the tournament that starts on Thursday.
The Rest:
7:00 p.m. Court 2: Bruins (2-3) vs. Big O Boys (2-3)
The Bruins got a solid win on Thursday, while the Big O Boys got blown out by Andy’s Lawncare. It will be interesting to see how both teams respond.
8:00 p.m. Court 3: Cape Truck Acc. (3-2) vs. Northeast (2-3)
A good match-up between Midland University (Cape Truck) and Northeast CC. Both teams are going in opposite directions–Cape Truck has been on a roll recently, while Northeast has suffered three losses in a row since starting 2-0.
8:00 p.m. Court 4: UNO Alumni (2-3) vs. Mustangs (3-1)
Morningside (Mustangs) hope to rebound from their first loss last week.
9:00 p.m. Court 3: Lopers (3-2) vs. ABIDE (0-5)
The Lopers have had a lot of competitive games that have lead to their 3-2 record. They could easily be 5-0. ABIDE seems overmatched for this league.
9:00 p.m. Court 4: BD (2-3) vs. Apex Foster Care (3-2)
Peru State (Apex) looks to keep up their momentum into the tournament on Thursday.
