Today in Bluejay History (5/22)

May 22, 2009 — Creighton ousts Missouri State in 10 innings to earn a trip to the MVC title game.

The Bluejays and Bears engaged in a back and forth affair, with each team taking leads. But the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings ended with the score tied, and in the 10th inning the Jays loaded the bases for Robbie Knight. The junior outfielder gave Creighton a 7-5 lead with a two-run single.

But Missouri State still had something left in the tank for the bottom of the 10th. The leadoff hitter reached after being hit by a Bobby Lackovic pitch, and he would eventually score thanks to a pinch-hit single. Jack VanLeur would shut the game down, however, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with a game-ending groundout and sending the Jays to the title game.
