Basketball Quick Hits: 1/14/09

There are times when instead of eating a donut, you instead pop a bunch of donut holes. WBR’s Quick Hits, then, are our donut holes! Here are a few tasty nuggets from the world of Creighton and Missouri Valley Conference athletics:

  • Women’s game: The Creighton Women’s Basketball team, 3-1 in conference play, takes on Evansville this morning at 11 a.m. Are you kidding me? I can see this on the weekend, but during a Thursday early afternoon? Follow today’s game with Live Audio and Live Stats.
  • Big Man on Campus: Next week you may see a new big man on campus. He is Greg Echenique, and he recently decided to transfer from Rutgers to Creighton. According to a report by the Omaha World Herald, Greg hopes to be on campus by Saturday to watch the Wichita State game and enroll at Creighton. The 6’9″, 260 lb. hoss will be eligible to play for the Bluejays in the 2nd half of the 2010-11 season. WBR will have more about the impending arrival of Echenique soon.
  • White Out: Saturday’s game against Wichita State is a “White Out.” Wear your white t-shirts to the game for the ESPN2 broadcast. Get your official 2010 “white out T-shirt” for the game at any one of the four Lawlor’s locations in Omaha, or pick one up at the Lawlor’s table at the Get Blue alumni event.
  • Get Blue Event: Speaking of the Get Blue event, join Creighton Alumni at the event on Saturday before the game at the Hilton across from the Qwest Center. See Billy Bluejay, the Jays Dancers, and the Blue Crew and get balloons and tattoos and much, much more. You need to RSVP here to join in the fun.
  • Get Blue National Game Viewing Day: If you can’t be in Omaha for the Get Blue Event, there are also places all over the U.S. where you can get together with other Creighton fans to watch the Wichita State game. St. Louis, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, the Bay Area, and Washington D.C. are all having get-togethers. WBR readers in those cities … make sure to send us some snapshots of the festivities!
