Jays Add Westside Star, per OWH

According to this morning’s Omaha World-Herald, women’s basketball coach Jim Flannery will welcome another member of the Nelson family to campus about a year from now.

Omaha Westside star athlete Sarah Nelson will join her sister Kellie in a Bluejay uniform for the 2010-2011 season, according to a report by the OWH’s Nick Rubek. It is a major recruiting win for Flan; not only is Nelson a highly decorated local player, but according to the article Sarah Nelson chose to play in front of (and with) her family in Omaha and not for Nebraska, where she also had a scholarship offer.

A quick look at some of Nelson’s accolades, compiled under a heavy dose of caffeine this morning:

  • Finalist for 2009 Omaha World-Herald Nebraska high school girls athlete of the year as a junior
  • World-Herald All-State basketball first team as a junior
  • Lincoln Journal-Star Super State basketball team as a junior
  • World-Herald Class A basketball first team as a sophomore
  • Led the Pinnacle Bank Senior all-star team to a 23-2 record last summer, including a championship at the Vision Sports National Shootout in Las Vegas
  • Super State and All-Nebraska soccer first team as a junior; second-team All-Nebraska as a sophomore

Maybe Bruce Erickson could convince her to play some defense for his women’s soccer program? She could just pack her stuff and shuttle between Sokol Arena and Morrison Stadium?.
