Khyri Thomas: (Still) a Lockdown Defender

Last February, we’d had enough of Khyri Thomas flying under the radar and being overlooked in discussions about the best defensive players in the Big East. So we produced a video compilation titled “#Khyrifense”, featuring his best defensive plays, from blocked shots to steals to on-ball defense.

Guess what? NBA draft scouts excepted, he’s still overlooked. And it still frustrates the heck out of everyone at WBR. Thomas had to share the Big East Defensive Player of the Year Award last March with Villanova’s Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges as part of the first three-way tie for a major award in league history. He was left off the preseason Big East first AND second teams prior to this season, relegated to “Honorable Mention” status. And many predictions for 2017-18 Big East Defensive Player of the Year have him sharing the award again, or finishing (gasp) second to someone else. This despite Creighton holding each of the Big East’s top ten scorers below their average, either directly or indirectly as a result of #Khyrifense.

With Thomas continuing to lockdown opposing teams’ best players, and not being the type to hype himself, we’ll help with the promotion: WBR proudly presents “#Khyrifense Vol. 2”, a collection of defensive highlights from the 2017-18 season (plus a couple from the tail end of last year, after Vol. 1 dropped).
