- *Kentucky was the Jays’ toughest opponent so far this regular season, but arguably not the most skilled. The Wildcats didn’t have the creativity or ability to create good scoring chances for themselves, but often caused trouble with their speed and athleticism. UK’s best scoring opportunity came off an intercepted pass, but they didn’t capitalize and never saw a better look on goal.
- Major props to the Wildcat goalkeeper, Tyler Beadle, who absolutely kept his team in the game. It might have been 6-0 if not for some major heroics between the pipes.
- Speaking of goalkeepers, how about Brian Holt? The guy’s a monster. This streak speaks for itself.
- Kentucky especially struggled with passing in the final third, though that’s due in large part to the Jays’ back line and the pressure they were able to create. Duran, Peters, Miller and Brown did a great job of attacking the ball and kept the opposition on their heels.
- Creighton had trouble with the Kentucky defense initially, but seemed to play the ball wide more as the game progressed. Greg Jordan’s role seemed to be winning the ball at midfield and immediately playing wide to a Creighton winger streaking down the sideline. It was exciting to see the Bluejays adapt to the opponent and beat them anyway.
- Ribeiro scored the first goal on a wormburner from around 20 yards out. The goalkeeper didn’t see the shot and didn’t stand a chance. Those are the kinds of shots on frame you want to see your team taking, and it’s even better to see them capitalizing on the opportunity
- Finlay probably wishes he had that penalty kick back. It seemed to be mis-struck, going waist-high and across his body. He made up for it, though, with his second-half goal. That was a result of hustle and hard work, which Finlay shows in abundance.
- Jose Gomez pulled a hamstring, and will be out of commission for at least a week.
