Today in Bluejay History (8/11)

August 11, 2005 — Both Creighton soccer teams receive the preseason nod from conference coaches as the teams to beat in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference soccer seasons.

Bob Warming’s men’s team received seven of eight first-place votes (63 points total), while Bruce Erickson’s women’s team garnered five of seven first-place voices (46 points).

The MVC coaches were dead on.

The men’s team would win the Missouri Valley Conference tournament (2-0 vs. Bradley in Peoria) and advance to another NCAA tournament. They won their first three games in the College Cup tournament before dropping a 1-0 decision to Clemson.

The women’s team would also win the MVC tournament, beating Drake 1-0 at Morrison Stadium to secure a place in the NCAA women’s soccer championship tournament. Their season would end less than a week later, though, as the Bluejays would drop a 1-0 heartbreaker to Nebraska in Lincoln..
