August 2, 2006 — Men’s basketball player Steve Smith tells the Omaha World-Herald he is transferring to South Dakota, after missing most of his first two seasons on the Hilltop with foot and back injuries.

The departure of the 6-foot-11 Smith, recruited as a backup for emerging low post player Anthony Tolliver, leaves CU short-handed in the paint. However, just one day before Smith announced his departure, Chad Millard confirmed he would transfer from Louisville to Creighton.

After sitting out a season due to the transfer policies, Millard averaged 18 minutes per game in 2007-2008 and just 9 minutes per game last season while battling nagging injuries. He heads into his senior campaign as a key factor in what Jays fans hope will be a return to the NCAA tournament..
