Women’s Soccer, Iowa State Tie 0-0

Creighton started its 2009 regular season with a nil-nil tie against Iowa State Friday night. Sophomore keeper Alicia Montgomery (pictured) corralled 6 saves against the Cyclones, who failed to beat Creighton in regular season or exhibition play for just the first time since the two schools began a series of matches in 2005.

Before the game, head coach Bruce Erickson told White & Blue Review that the key to success against ISU and on Sunday at South Dakota State would be healthy players and a healthy offense.

“We are pretty banged up this early, so depth will be a key as will staying healthy,” he said. “We want to be able to score goals and alleviate some of the pressure on our defenders.”

And while the Bluejays were unable to put a tally on the board against the Cyclones, the defenders and keeper held up their end of the bargain. The Jays put 5 shots on goal, but limited offensive success was shored up by Kat Wright, Katie Murphy, and the rest of the Creighton defense.
