Goalkeeper

With the loss of stand out keeper Kristen Casey, the Bluejays have a big void to fill between the pipes. After tying a school record with 18 shutouts in 2008, Casey raised the bar for anyone looking to take her place. But that’s where the coaching staff’s recruiting efforts will come into play.

The favorite to fill the position will be Alicia Montgomery, a sophomore out of Walnut Creek, California. Montgomery saw playing time in five matches last season, including one start. And what a start it was, as she stopped 5 shots and recorded a shutout against North Dakota.

Montgomery can expect competition for the keeper spot from freshman Kaitie Jo Swanson. The newcomer from Littleton, Colorado, comes to Creighton following an exceptional prep and club career. Her high school teams went 67-11-5 in her four years, and her club team (Real Colorado) won three state titles and a national championship.

With two young keepers in the net, the Bluejays will be looking for either Montgomery or Swanson to establish themselves during the early part of the season. They get their chance tomorrow in the Bluejays’ only exhibition match of the season.

Be sure to show up for Creighton’s 5:00 p.m. contest against Minnesota State at Morrison Stadium.
