CWS 2010 Recap: Games #4, #5, #6 (June 21)

Clemson 6, Arizona State 3

The fourth game of the College World Series started a day late, but for Clemson the outcome was likely worth the wait. Casey Harman stifled the Sun Devils’ bats on a warm and humid afternoon at Rosenblatt, and the Tigers cruised into the winners bracket where they will face Oklahoma Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Arizona State, meanwhile, must battle back through the losers bracket. The Devils’ quest begins at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against South Carolina.

Florida State 8, Florida 5

The Gators and Seminoles met in yet another rivalry game with high stakes, and the ‘Noles prevailed to stave off elimination in Omaha for another day. Florida, however, says goodbye to the College World Series after two tough outings. The Seminoles used three home runs to outlast Florida, including a leadoff homer by team sparkplug Tyler Holt. Florida State will try to enact revenge against TCU Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., in a win-or-go-home game at Rosenblatt Stadium.

UCLA 6, TCU 3

Gerrit Cole lived up to his advanced billing, much to the dismay of the Horned Frogs and their purple-clad faithful peppered throughout the stands in the ‘Blatt. Cole went 8 innings, allowed 5 hits and 3 runs, and struck out 13 Frogs to earn the win and put his Bruins in the driver’s seat. The Horned Frogs’ offense, which looked so potent against FSU Saturday afternoon, achieved only mild success against the Bruins’ ace.
