Along with being one of five players on Creighton’s 2014-15 roster from the state Minnesota, Simley High School’s Kylie Brown is also the tallest Bluejay, standing at 6-foot 3-inches.

Hailing from Inver Grove Heights, Kylie is long and athletic, and finishes well around the basket. She gets her shot up quickly whether it’s in the low post or stepping out from 10-12 feet. She moves well without the ball and will be effective in freeing up guards on the perimeter.

With the departures of center Alyssa Kamphaus and forward Sarah Nelson, Brown is a candidate to contribute right away so long as she continues to show improvement in practice and communicate on the defensive end.

High School Stats

Junior – 12.9 ppg, 11.7 rpg

Surpassed 1,000 career rebounds in her first three seasons.

Head Coach Jim Flanery on Brown:

“She’s long and athletic. She’s got a really high ceiling as far as where she could end up. I like that she’s been a learner, and she’s already improved a ton really in the last month. I think she can impact us this year, but down the road I think she can be a really good player.”

Q&A with Kylie Brown:

Q: Why did you choose Creighton?

A: “I chose Creighton because when I came on my visits here I really liked the atmosphere, and the team, especially. They made me feel like I belonged here. They were super nice. I just loved it from the first time I came here.”

Q: What type of skills do you bring to the team?

A: “I’m athletic. I was good off the dribble in high school, and I don’t really have a height advantage in college anymore. I wasn’t really a post player in high school. I can help people get open for threes, screening, because we’re a good three-point shooting team. Getting people open will be a big part of that.”

Q: What do you think about being on a young team that’s coming off several successful seasons?

A: “I think it’s going to be, not tough, but we have a lot of adjusting to do. We have to get used to playing with each other, and the older teammates have to get used to playing with us since there is five of us. I think it will be a good experience, though, getting to play with new people. As the years come, we have a big group, so we’ll obviously get used to playing with each other.”

Q: What are you goals for your college career?

A: “I want to obviously make the NCAA Tournament, and just to keep improving on an individual level.”
