Ed Servais and the Creighton Bluejays concluded arguably the most improbable finish in recent Missouri Valley Conference baseball history Saturday night. The Jays, who entered the week-long tournament as the #8 seed, won four games in five days to clinch the tournament championship and earn a second straight berth in the NCAA tournament.
Down 4-o early to Southern Illinois in the title game, Creighton clawed back and took the lead in the seventh inning on Jake Peter’s two-run base hit. Reese McGraw and Kurt Spomer closed the door in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, and the Jays dogpiled for the second straight season.
CU will head to Los Angeles for a Friday evening game against UCLA in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
