An already historic 2021 recruiting class got another boost on Wednesday when 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard Trey Alexander announced his commitment to Creighton.
In the fall, Alexander chose Auburn over Arkansas, Georgia, Grambling State, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. He signed his letter of intent with the Tigers on the last day of the early signing period, but reopened his recruitment on April 22nd after the coaching staff there brought in a trio of transfer guards. Creighton extended an official offer on May 17th.
Alexander is listed as a four-star top 100 prospect by all three major recruiting services. He’s rated 55th overall on ESPN, 73rd on 247Sports, and 81st on Rivals. Prior to his commitment to the Bluejays he was the last remaining undeclared player on ESPN’s top 100 list. The top-rated recruit from the state of Oklahoma, Alexander was named to the Super 5 All-State First Team as a senior this past spring. In each of his final three seasons at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City he averaged at least 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals and eclipsed 2,000 career points two months before the end of his senior season.
There is no lack of experience on the national circuit either.
In 2019, he won a U16 Peach Jam Championship playing for NBA veteran Blake Griffin’s AAU team. He averaged 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists from the quarterfinal round on, and hit back-to-back shots in the championship game to send the game to overtime. Last fall, along with the top 40 high school seniors in the country, Alexander was invited to participate in the 2020 Pangos All-American Festival. While there he teamed up with former Jays commit TyTy Washington to help the South Team claim the title. He averaged 17.5 points and five rebounds per game and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
In April he participated in a national high school 3-point shootout and recorded the best individual round of the competition on his way to a third place finish in the event.
Alexander fills one of two open scholarships that Creighton had remaining this offseason. He joins Arthur Kaluma, Ryan Nembhard, Mason Miller, John Christofilis, and transfers Ryan Hawkins and KeyShawn Feazell as newcomers to Creighton’s roster for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Alexander’s addition to the incoming high schoolers Christofilis, Kaluma, Miller, and Nembhard boosts the Jays’ 2021 recruiting class above Kentucky and Florida State and into the Top 5 on 247Sports behind only Michigan, Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Duke.
Prior to this year, Creighton’s highest team ranking on the site was 25th in 2017 (Jacob Epperson, Mitch Ballock, and Ty-Shon Alexander).
