For the second day in a row the Bluejays will face a do-or-die situation in Corvallis. After knocking off the defending national champs 4-1 yesterday afternoon, the Jays will turn their gaze towards to a familiar foe: a Cincinnati-based university team coached by Scott Googins.
The start time is at 2:00pm. It will be broadcast on ESPN3.
If the Jays are able to beat Cincinnati they’ll play Michigan tonight at 7pm PT.
— Under Ed Servais, Creighton holds a 7-8 record against Scott Googins. They’ve lost six of their last seven against him, two of those losses came in the BIG EAST tournament.
— Cincinnati will throw freshman Evan Shawver, a lefty that’s posted a 7.19 ERA in 9 starts. He’s thrown 56.1 innings this season, allowing 48 hits, walking 47, and striking out 66. It is entirely possible that they could go full blown bullpen day today. They did it against Xavier in the third game of the season, using six different pitchers who tossed no more than 2 2/3 innings. Shawver has only gone 5+ innings three times this season. He’s had 7 dongshots and 13 doubles hit against him this year.
— The Bearcats dipped into their bullpen and used four arms last night, except Cal Jarrett – who came into the series after throwing two innings all season – shut things down in clean up duty. All things considered, the Bearcats are pretty fresh in the bullpen.
— Rumor has it Dylan Tebrake would start game two if need be.
— Jason Allbery is back at the DH role for the Jays today.
— AJ Bumpass, the right fielder for the Bearcats, absolutely tore apart OSU in their first game, falling a double short of the cycle. He went 5-5 with 3 RBIs.
