The Creighton volleyball team exited the NCAA Tournament in the round of 32 on Friday night losing to Kansas in four sets. The loss ended the Jays season with a record of 31-4. At the same time, they are left wondering what could have been.
On Thursday, the Bluejays lost their captain Jaela Zimmerman to injury midway through the second set. The, team full of adrenaline to play for their fallen leader, dominated from there to finish things out, sweeping Ole Miss.
However, on Friday, the Bluejays had to play without Zimmerman. While they have done that a few times this season during Big East play, this was a whole new experience against tougher competition. They fought, almost sneaking out a win in the second set to tie the match. Being two sets down was a large mountain to rally from and while they took the 3rd set, they could not get over the hump, falling to the Jayhawks 3-1.
Matt DeMarinis and former Bluejay Megan Ballenger get together one more time to recap the NCAA Tournament and where things go heading into the spring and next season. Thanks for listening to our new Volleyball podcasts this season. We hope you enjoyed it and learned a little more about this program that head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth has built. There is a lot to look forward to in the future from this perennial top 25 team.
