Anonymous reports surfaced on Tuesday afternoon indicating that Bluejay sophomore guard Antwann Jones had entered the transfer portal. Multiple sources, including Jones himself, have since confirmed those reports with White & Blue Review.
Jones spent his freshman season at Memphis where he averaged 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in a just under 17 minutes per game for the Tigers. He transferred to Creighton in late April of 2019 and redshirted the 2019-20 season. He added a strong scoring punch to the scout team to help simulate opposing playmakers as the Jays the ripped through the Big East Conference on their way to the program’s first regular season title and No. 1 overall seed in the conference tournament before the COVID-19 outbreak brought an abrupt end to postseason play.
He opened this past season averaging 10.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists with only one turnover in wins over North Dakota State, Nebraska-Omaha, and Kennesaw State. After struggling in an overtime win at UConn, Jones bounced back with a season-high 13 points as he helped Creighton rally from a 13-point deficit to beat 22nd-ranked Xavier just before the Christmas break.
With Duke transfer Alex O’Connell being ruled eligible, consistent playing time proved tough to come by on a roster full of experienced wings. Jones averaged 8.3 minutes per game over the final 21 games of the season.
Given the free season of eligibility granted by the NCAA last year, Jones enters the transfer portal with three years of college eligibility remaining to finish out his career.
In other news, Creighton officially announced the signing of McNeese State transfer KeyShawn Feazell. The 6-foot-8, 235-pound senior forward finished up his degree in business administration while starting 20 of the 21 games he played in for Cowboys last season. He led the team in scoring (13.1 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg), and blocked shots (1.2 bpg). In an official press release, Bluejay head coach Greg McDermott expressed his enthusiasm of Feazell’s addition to the 2021-22 roster:
“We are excited to add KeyShawn to our program. His toughness, leadership and versatility was exactly what we were looking for. His skill level combined with the fact that he is a relentless rebounder, will make for a seamless transition into our system. We can’t wait to get him on campus!”
Feazell joins Northwest Missouri State grad transfer Ryan Hawkins and incoming freshmen Arthur Kaluma, John Christofilis, Mason Miller, and Ryan Nembhard as newcomers next season. The Bluejays officially has one open scholarship remaining for next season. Junior All-American point guard Marcus Zegarowski has declared for the NBA Draft, but has not yet signed with an agent and ended his college basketball career. Though he is likely to remain in the NBA Draft, he has until the end of the day on July 7th to decide if he will return to school or turn pro.
