In a winner takes all third game in the College World Series Championship Series, Vanderbilt came up with clutch hitting in the third and fourth inning breaking a 1-1 tie and cruising to an 8-2 victory, and champions of College Baseball.
Michigan got on the board early in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Vanderbilt countered in the bottom of the second with a home run from Pat DeMarco to tie things up 1-1. Then in the bottom of the 3rd with two outs, DeMarco was walked with the bases loaded to bring in the lead run before Stephen Scott singled in two more runs for the big inning and a 4-1 lead.
The Commodores kept the scoring going in the fourth inning with another two runs to take a 6-1 lead. Pitchers Mason Hickman and Jake Eder held the Wolverines at bay with Michigan only able to generate an additional run in the eighth.
