Futbol Friday: Q&A With Creighton’s Jamie Clark

The nationally ranked Creighton men’s soccer team hits the road for four consecutive matches away from Morrison Stadium. The Bluejays begin their trek in Evansville, where they will take on the Purple Aces.

We caught up with head coach Jamie Clark before Creighton’s conference clash Saturday night.

White & Blue Review: Will you talk a little bit about the loss against Indiana?

Jamie Clark: Not a problem. Indiana is a good team, and we knew that coming in. They didn’t surprise us; they are just a good team with a lot of talent. UCLA doesn’t lose games 5-1 very often, and that is exactly what Indiana did earlier this season. Whenever you have a program like Indiana, one that is rich in tradition and has a long history of success, they will always have talent.

WBR: Jose Gomez received a red card in the first half, was that a matter of frustration?

JC: They were testing him throughout the game, and he lost his cool a bit. He had an incident during the Tulsa game where he was kicked in the face, and reacted a bit, but not like this. He will need to use this as a learning experience and he will have to miss our match against Evansville.

WBR: With Choco out tomorrow, will we see a change in formation or will you simply bring in someone in his place?

JC: Right now I am unsure what we will do. We will either change our formation or put two up top, or we will look at adjusting the midfield. Not sure.

WBR: Can you give us a quick breakdown of Evansville?

JC: Well, they were picked by the coaches in the Valley to win the league in the preseason, but it just hasn’t worked out that way for them. They return a number of players from last year’s team, and they are some good players at that. It should be a good game, and we are looking forward to getting back on the field after our loss on Saturday.

WBR: You will be heading out on the road for your next four games; will that be tough on the guys?

JC: Believe it or not, but it will actually be nice to get on the road for a few days. We also will be looking forward to getting back on the pitch and forgetting about Indiana.
