Leon Gilmore, a 6’7” Houston native, has signed his National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Greg McDermott and the Creighton Bluejays.
Gilmore burst onto the national scene this summer after tremendous displays at a number of all-star camps as well as with his outstanding play in the Nike EYBL for the talented Houston Hoops program. Gilmore ran alongside some of the nation’s players which really elevated his game.
As we detailed in our earlier article about Leon, Gilmore gained notoriety this summer for his versatility. He impressed from a variety of positions on the court, showing his abilities to score in the post as well as from beyond the arc (video). Gilmore is a natural lefty but can finish around the rim with both hands. He has the speed and coordination at 6’7” to put the ball on the court and take his defender to the rim.
Head Coach Greg McDermott had this to say about Leon, “Leon is a versatile player that can pass, handle and shoot the basketball. His length and athletic ability will allow us to play him at several positions. He competes on both ends of the floor and has tremendous potential.”
Gilmore averaged 13.7 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game last season at Manvel High School as a Junior. Here are some of his highlights from 2012-2013.
