6’7” forward Jasen Green will be staying in Omaha, committing to Creighton on Thursday as part of their 2022 class.
Overshadowed offensively on Millard North’s state title team by Gonzaga commit Hunter Sallis and Loyola-Chicago commit Saint Thomas — who took most of the team’s shots and were their top scorers — Green impressed coaches in other ways. Though he took half the shots of their two stars, Green made 63% of the ones he did take. He averaged 12.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. And when his team needed him to take over, he showed he could. Green had 18 points in the Class A state title game, scoring the first six points of overtime.
He’ll be the Mustangs’ top option this winter, and figured to see his stock rise on the recruiting trail. Instead, he’ll head into his senior season knowing where he’ll play his college ball — for Greg McDermott at Creighton.
This summer he played for Nebraska Supreme on the Under Armour AAU circuit alongside Virginia commit Isaac Traudt of Grand Island. Green averaged 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists while shooting nearly 50% from three-point range. And this buzzer-beater made the rounds on social media:
Nebraska had made him a priority recruit, offering him a scholarship two years ago when he was a freshman. His first official visit was to Lincoln in June, and many figured it was a foregone conclusion he was headed there.
Iowa State, Kansas State, Stanford, TCU, and Wake Forest followed with offers. Minnesota, Purdue, Missouri, Colorado, and North Carolina State showed serious interest. All the while, CU kept an eye on him, and made him a scholarship offer in mid-July after an unofficial visit. Green made an official visit to campus last weekend. Just days later he spurned the rest of the high major programs pursuing him and made the decision to be a Bluejay.
A 4.0 student through three years of high school, Green has indicated he wants to study biomedical physics as an undergrad. He told NebPreps.com on Thursday that academics were a big focus of those visits, and that he wanted to make sure CU’s science programs had what he was looking for.
Green is currently a three-star recruit ranked #183 in the class of 2022, but both of those numbers are poised to skyrocket. Earlier this week ESPN pegged him as the 19th best power forward in the class.
He joins Ben Shtolzberg, out of the Los Angeles area, as commits for the 2022 class so far.
