100-ish Words About Nevada
Wolf Pack head coach Jay Johnson knows what he’s doing. Nevada’s nationally ranked & top 50 in RPI, already clinched the Mountain West Conference regular season championship, and boasts one of the fiercest offenses in the country.
Johnson’s team is a band of road warriors, too, a squad unlikely to be phased by playing in the spacious confines of TD Ameritrade Park. Nevada’s only played five home games since April 7, going 12-5 overall in the span and going 8-4 away from Reno.
The Bluejays, by the Numbers
- Record: 27-14 (10-4 Big East)
- RPI: 61 (c/o www.ncaa.com)
Last Time Out
If St. John’s manages to edge out the Bluejays for this year’s regular season Big East baseball championship, Creighton fans might trace the disappointment back to the series opener last weekend in South Orange, New Jersey.
Leading most of the game, Seton Hall turned a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 win thanks to a four-pitch leadoff walk by David Gerber, two hits, and a dropped fly ball by Kevin Connolly.
Luckily for the Ed Servais, his team showed resiliency and depth to beat the Pirates Saturday (trailed 6-1, won 10-7) and Sunday (ace Matt Warren anchored the staff with 7 innings of 1-run ball) to win the series and remain a single game back of the Red Storm in pursuit of a second consecutive Big East crown.
