The home pitch at Morrison Stadium continues to treat the Creighton Bluejays men’s soccer team well. Hosting their second NCAA Tournament match in two weeks, the Bluejays went ahead of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 2-0 before ultimately pulling out a 2-1 win in front of more than 2,400 CU fans.
The first goal belonged to Bruno Castro, who in the eighth minute connected on a penalty kick for his sixth goal of the season.
The second CU tally came off the foot of Andrew Ribeiro, who took a header from Greg Jordan and put it in the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
The Bluejays dominated play in the first half, but couldn’t put the match completely out of reach. UCSB tried to complete the comeback, but the Creighton defense held up late to secure the team’s place in the quarterfinals. One of eight teams remaining in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Bluejays will host South Florida Saturday, December 3, at 1 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
