After a few delays to work around mother nature, the Creighton baseball team took the field for a game for the first time this season at TD Ameritrade Park. The Bluejays ended up falling to Minnesota 8-6 in 12 innings.
Creighton had a 3-2 lead heading to the top of the ninth before Minnesota was able to get a hit and draw three walks to tie it up at 3 headed into the bottom of the ninth. The Bluejays had an opportunity to sneak out with a win when Kevin Lamb had a triple to lead off the inning, but execution to get him home didn’t happen and the game went into extra innings.
The game then went scoreless until the 12th where Minnesota got themselves 5 runs in the top of the inning to take an 8-3 lead. The Bluejays rallied back in the bottom of the 12th, but could only get three runs themselves before falling to the Gophers.
The game was delayed for over an hour due to right field flooding and the construction of a orange temporary snow fence that stretched from left center field to right field foul line. It appeared that the fence was moved in closer than the warning track.
The Bluejays return to the diamond for another game with the Gophers on Sunday. Originally scheduled as a double-header, the teams will play only one game at 1:30 p.m. at TD Ameritrade Park.
