The Creighton baseball team finished the regular season with a series against MVC foe Wichita State. The Bluejays went 1-2 in the series and finished the regular season with a 22-28 record and 6-14 in conference play.
In the finale of the series on Saturday, it was a 1-1 contested game until the sixth inning where the Shockers brought in a run to take the lead, one run in the eighth and a couple of runs in the ninth to take down the Bluejays 5-1. Creighton stranded eight runners in the contest threatening to score throughout the game.
WBR photographer Mike Spomer was there on Thursday and Friday night capturing some great photos from the first two games of the series:
On Thursday night, Creighton almost spoiled a great outing by Ty Blach, who pitched seven scoreless innings, only allowing one hit after the first inning through the seventh. Wichita came back in the eighth with two runs to tie the game, but the Bluejays responded with five runs in the bottom half of the eighth and held on to get a 7-3 victory.
On Friday night, starter Shane Liska had his own great outing with six scoreless innings before being chased in the seventh inning. The Creighton bats struggled with only six hits in the game, including going hitless over the final three innings. The Bluejays went down in that game 2-0.
Creighton now turns their attention to the MVC tournament as the #8 seed. They will take on Indiana State on Tuesday looking for a chance to extend their season.
