The Creighton men’s basketball team was looking to rebound from the loss at Butler over the weekend, and had a tough task ahead of them with another ranked team in Villanova. However, despite the way the stat sheet looked, the Wildcats hung around and eventually took down the Bluejays, 64-59, in front of a sold out CHI Health Center crowd on Tuesday night.
The Bluejays held Villanova to 4-of-20 from three and limited overall shooting percentage to under 28% in the first half, but the Jays only went into the half with an eight point lead, 33-25 with opportunities left on the table to have a larger lead. In the second half, Creighton kept the Wildcats at arm’s length throughout the half until Villanova took advantage of some cold shooting from the Bluejays and took their first lead since being up 1-0 in the final minutes of the game. The Bluejays simply ran out of gas, and the Wildcats knew how to take advantage.
Christian Bishop had a standout game with 16 points and 9 rebounds. He was also the only Bluejay in double-figures.
