The Creighton men’s basketball team started off the game cold, fell behind by as many as 17 in the first half, and, while they made it close, they could not overcome the deficit.  The Bluejays fell 74-70 against Providence on Wednesday night at CHI Health Center Omaha.

The story heading into the game was the return of Preseason Big East Player of the Year, Marcus Zegarowski, to the lineup.  However, to start the game, the Bluejays struggled to get things going as they started 1-for-12 from the field, while the Friars looked to be hitting on all cylinders to jump out to a 23-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.  Zegarowski started getting things going with an assist to Christian Bishop for his first two points, a three-pointer, and a couple more assists to Ryan Kalkbrenner and Damien Jefferson for baskets to cut the Providence lead to 25-17.  The Bluejays got back into the game to go into the half down 39-34.

Unfortunately for the Bluejays, the second half almost started like the first as the Friars extended the lead back to double-digits, which made it an uphill battle.  The game was close again in the final minutes, but Providence always had an answer to a Creighton run.  David Duke sealed it with the final two free throws of the game sending the Bluejays to their second straight loss.  They will need to regroup on Saturday morning for an early tipoff against UConn.
