The fourth year of the Gavitt Games featuring the Big East versus the Big 10 isn’t turning out well for the Big East. After several blowouts the previous couple of evenings, Creighton put up a fight against Ohio State, but they too fell to a Big 10 team, 69-60, to the Buckeyes.
The Bluejays got into foul trouble early with Ty-Shon Alexander and Damien Jefferson getting two fouls and Creighton played the last 10 minutes of the first half with them sitting on the bench. During that time, Ohio State went on a 27-11 run to go into the half up by 12.
However, just like Sunday’s game against East Tennessee State, the Bluejays came roaring back and eventually took the lead with just under six minutes to go and extended the lead to four points with just under three minutes left, 60-56. Unfortunately missed shots, missed free throws and missed plays in the final three minutes allowed Ohio State to finish the game with a 13-0 run for the final result. The Jays lick their wounds as they get ready for the Cayman Islands Classic, starting on Monday.
