The Creighton men’s basketball season tipped off on Tuesday night against Kennesaw State. The Bluejays came out on fire early, weathered a first half stretch and then ran away with things in the second half in a 81-55 win at CHI Health Center Omaha.
Ty-Shon Alexander and Marcus Zegarowski combined to hit five three-pointers in the Bluejays first five shots of the game and combined for the first 17 points of the season. Alexander scored a game high 19 points, while Zegarowski had 18 points, 5 assists and 2 steals for the game. While Creighton had a fast start, Kennesaw State hung around for the first 20 minutes and the Jays went into half with a slim 39-31 lead.
However, in the second half, the defense ratcheted up and Creighton went on a 23-4 run out of the halftime locker room to pull away and roll to the victory. Christian Bishop scored 10 of his 12 points during that stretch. Shereef Mitchell started his Creighton career in the starting lineup and contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in his debut.
