Week three of the Metro Basketball League saw a lot of players missing and a lot of lopsided contests. Many Creighton Bluejays that were going to be there did not make it tonight leaving some teams shorthanded and the scores showed.
However, our game of the night between EQ School of Hair featuring Grant Gibbs and the Narmi Group featuring Josh Jones was the most competitive in the 6:00 p.m. hour as we anticipated in our preview. The 7:00 p.m. games had a lot more of the expected players and some good contests there.
Watching four games at once while taking pictures and video isn’t always easy, but here is what we saw tonight in Summer League.
***
EQ School of Hair 84, Narmi Group 69
This one was close most of the way with each team going back and forth. Again Grant Gibbs had a nice night distributing the ball to teammates Deverell Biggs and Storm Throne as well as hitting some nice shots. Josh Jones and the Narmi Group tried to come back, but struggled from the field down the stretch and it was not enough. EQ School of Hair (3-0) now has a showdown next week with 3-0 UNO Alumni. That will be the feature game next week at 6:00 p.m.
Here are some highlights from this game:
John Higgins Weatherguard 71, Leach Camper Sales 68
Will Artino joined the Higgins team again like he did two weeks ago, but this time he was able to play the whole game. This one went back and forth and was competitive throughout. UNK’s Mike Dentlinger and UNO Freshman CJ Carter led the way for Leach Camper Sales. A three point attempt by Leach with about 7 seconds fell short and Higgins walked away with the win and went to 3-0 in league play.
Here are a couple highlights from Will Artino’s play:
Walentine, O’Toole, McQuillan & Gordon 97, Paragas Law 91
In a battle of these two law firms, this one was close throughout the contest. Former Bluejay Justin Carter had some rim rocking dunks during the game and Darryl Ashford started getting hot from outside late, but they came up short and called the game with a few seconds remaining.
Thompson Basketball Camp 108, Shanks Law 74
With Geoffrey Groselle and Nevin Johnson absent from this contest, this one got out of hand early. Shanks was undersized and overmatched in this one. With Thompson Basketball Camp only losing their first two games by a total of six points, you had a feeling they would come out with a little fire and with Shanks shorthanded, they took advantage.
Bellevue Alumni 90, Judd Knispel Agency 81
Antoine Young wasn’t here for this one, but it didn’t matter, the Judd Knispel Agency falls again. Bellevue Alumni gets their first win while the Judd Knispel Agency falls to 0-3.
Other Scores:
Bellevue University 85, UNO Mavs 59
Barley’s 91, Zurlo’s Pizza 74
UNO Alumni 88, Chris Carder Agency 79
