Before the draft, most pundits had Doug McDermott going to Charlotte with the #9 pick. As that pick neared, Creighton fans (and national media) turned to Twitter anticipating his selection. Then the Hornets grabbed Indiana forward Noah Vonleh, and there was lots of confusion.

Philadelphia was next on the clock, and as the Sixers took their entire five minutes to make a pick, Jays fans wondered whether the arena where the biggest win of 2013-14 came would be the home court of McBuckets:
Annnnd then Philly passed on him, too, opting for Louisiana guard Elfrid Payton — the same Payton who had lost to the McDermott and the Jays in the NCAA Tournament in March.
The Denver Nuggets were next, and as Jays fans in Omaha considered the possibilities — close road trips! A preseason game in Des Moines this October! — Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski scooped the Commish with this tweet about 30 seconds before he hit the podium:
Moments later, it was official.

BUT WAIT! Barely five minutes had passed before word leaked that Denver was trading McDermott to the Chicago Bulls for their two first-round picks. As we’d later learn in Steve Pivovar’s article in the World-Herald, this was a development that was in the works before Denver made the pick — and his agent informed him of the impending deal before he went on stage, making the moment he pulled a Nuggets hat on a bit awkward. Let the record show that the Era of McNuggets lasted officially just over three minutes.
And as the reality of Doug playing in the Windy City sunk in, people got excited.

The analysis of what a great fit it was only made people more excited.
As for Doug? He was just a little excited. Just a little.
