Series Recap
The Weekend in 200 Words
Ahhh, the start of baseball season. Sure, the Jays had a few series under their belts before this weekend. But “HOME OPENER” are two of the best words to a dedicated baseball fan. Unfortunately for Creighton fans, the weekend failed to deliver many celebratory moments.
Saturday, Creighton took a 3-0 lead over Minnesota to the middle frames, a 3-1 into the eighth inning, and a 3-2 lead into the last half of the ninth. But the Gophers sent the game into extras, wherein they made a couple of game-saving defensive plays. See below:
AND…
Eventually, the Gophers scored five (!) runs in the top of the twelfth against David Gerber and Taylor Elman. Yet the Jays wouldn’t go away, plating three runs of their own in the bottom of that inning before running out of outs.
Sunday, there weren’t many opportunities to win because, well, the Jays failed to get a single hit. Dalton Sawyer, Tyler Hanson, and Lance Thonvold combined to hurl a no-hitter while getting nine runs of support from the Gopher offense. Creighton ace Matt Warren, meanwhile, dropped to 1-2 with the loss; that’s twice as many losses as Warren suffered in 2014 when he went 10-1.
