Today in Bluejay History (3/1)

March 1, 2008 — In one of the most entertaining games in recent Creighton history, Cavel Witter scores 42 points to lead the Bluejays to a 111-110 double-overtime win against Bradley.

Witter’s 42 points are the most by one player in the history of Qwest Center Omaha, and the total is tied for 6th on Creighton’s single-game charts. Witter came off the bench to go 13-20 from the field (4-6 from 3-point range) and 12-13 from the free throw line. Kenny Lawson (14), P’Allen Stinnett (14), and Booker Woodfox (13) each contributed double-figure scoring efforts, as well.

But Bradley countered with huge afternoons from Daniel Ruffin (30 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists), Jeremy Crouch (29 points on 7-12 from 3-point range, 6 assists), and Theron Wilson (24 points, 11 rebounds). Ruffin’s afternoon made him the second player in MVC history with more than 1,000 points and 600 assists.

The two teams would match up a week later in the quarterfinals of Arch Madness, where the Bluejays would prevail yet again.
