Today in Bluejay History (3/15)

March 15, 2002 — Terrell Taylor hits 8 3-pointers and leads Creighton to a first-round upset over Florida in the NCAA Tournament.

In one of the most exciting basketball games in recent Bluejays history, Taylor goes 10-20 from the field (and 8-15 from long range) to score 28 points in Creighton’s double-overtime win against the Gators.

Taylor scored all 28 of his points in the second half and overtime, and the Jays erased a 7-point halftime deficit en route to the upset in the #5-#12 game, to which sophomore center Brody Deren commented after the game:

“People make names for themselves when they win games like this. The three other schools that were twelve seeds know that this happens every year and we felt like it could happen today. We have more to prove because we are a mid-major team, and we chalk this up for all mid-majors.”

The win against Florida marked the second (and last)  NCAA Tournament win for Creighton under Dana Altman.
