March 23, 1942 — Creighton can’t win two in a row at Madison Square Garden.
One week after the Bluejays opened the National Invitational Tournament in New York City with a 59-58 win against West Texas State, Creighton took on Western Kentucky in the semifinals of the NIT. The Jays kept the game close early, trailing by 2 points at intermission. But the Hilltoppers outscored CU 24-13 in the second half to advance to the tournament championship game.
The Bluejays would match up with Toledo in the consolation game, which CU would win in another close battle 48-46.
