Today in Bluejay History (3/6)

March 6, 2005 — The Bluejays head to the free throw line to knock off Wichita State in the Arch Madness semifinals.

Johnny Mathies set a school record for most free throws made (13) and attempted (15) in a single MVC Tournament game, and the Bluejays as a group also set a single-game mark for most makes (33) and attempts (39) in a single Arch Madness contest.

In fact, the Jays shot almost as many free throws (39) as field goals (45) and posted a 10-point win even though they hit only 3 3-pointers and shot 38% for the game. Another reason for the win was a school-record 14 steals against the Shockers, leading to 20 WSU turnovers.
