August 14, 2006 — Papillion-La Vista junior Kylie Hovinga gives Creighton softball coach Brent Vigness her commitment to play for the Bluejays beginning in 2009, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

Hovinga would go on to an extremely successful high school career, earning first-team all-state, all-area, and all-conference honors in her last two seasons at Papillion-La Vista. The Monarchs won state championships Hovinga’s junior and senior seasons, and in her final campaign she was named honorary captain of the all-state Class A team by the OWH.

Hovinga started 15 games for the Bluejays as a freshman in 2009, compiling a 6-5 record and a 3.50 ERA. With senior superstar Tara Oltman finishing her Creighton career last season, Hovinga is poised for a breakout sophomore season in 2010..
