With a commanding lead in the overall series (87-34), the Wichita State Shockers head into this weekend’s series with a bit of confidence. That confidence was rattled some as the Shockers took a beating from Nebraska Tuesday night, to the tune of 14-0. The loss dropped the Shockers to 21-11 overall but did not effect their standings in the MVC. Currently in second place, the Shockers have struggled a bit this season on the road, hitting .241 and posting an ERA of 7.96.
The Sycamores are coming off a great combined pitching performance, during which seven pitchers were able to shut down Chicago State University 10-1. The Trees hope their offensive leader, Luke Fieser (.385 BA), will rattle the Shockers early. This series could have huge implications on the conference standings, as ISU enters the game in 4th place and only three games out of 1st.
Illinois State (15-15, 5-1) vs. Southern Illinois (16-17, 5-4)
Duffy Bass Field, Normal, IL

- 2:00 pm Saturday (Sorkin, Ill. St. vs. Forer, SIU)
- 1:00 pm Sunday (Camp, Ill. St. vs. Hoelscher, SIU)
Southern Illinois’ Bryant George will be making his first career start on Friday, as the Salukis enter into a pivotal series with the first place Illinois State Redbirds. Bryant is no stranger to the mound, however, as he is currently the school’s all-time saves leader. Although the role will change, the Salukis are confident in his abilities. SIU will face the top team in the league for the second consecutive weekend.
The Redbirds are coming off an impressive sweep of the Creighton Bluejays last weekend, which proved to be huge in the conference race. Although they are coming off a 11-3 loss to Purdue on Wednesday, the Redbirds will feel comfortable in their new role as league leaders.
