Wednesday (September 26)
Creighton Men’s Golf vs. Drake (2:00 p.m., Omaha Country Club)
Chris Wiemers and the Bluejays will host the Bulldogs a beautiful day for golf in Omaha. This is the second of five fall events for Wiemers’ team; they placed 8th out of 11 teams in the Fairway Club Invitational a few weeks ago in Nebraska City.
Friday (September 28)
Creighton Volleyball @ Southern Illinois (7:00 p.m.)
The Bluejays are off to the best start in program history. Kirsten Bernthal Booth’s team won a midweek non-conference match Tuesday against South Dakota (3-1). Now, CU heads out for the first road trip in Missouri Valley Conference play. Bernthal Booth’s teams have had the Salukis’ number; Creighton is 19-0 against SIU in matches during her tenure on the Hilltop. Overall, the Jays are 28-9 all-time against the Salukis.
Saturday (September 29)
Creighton Men’s and Women’s Tennis vs. Omaha Collegiate Invitational (Saturday-Sunday)
Tom Lilly’s teams will participate in the Omaha Collegiate Invitational this weekend. Billy Paluch won the Flight A singles title at the Drake Fall Invitational, while freshman Sam Anderson won a pair of matches during the women’s team’s trip to the Drake tournament.
Creighton Men’s and Women’s Cross Country @ Charles Bowles Invitational (9:30 a.m., Salem, Oregon)
Chas Davis takes his teams to Oregon a week after the women’s and men’s squads each took third place in the Saluki Invitational. Drew Prescott led the men and Courtney Sawle led the women.
Creighton Baseball Parents Weekend Scrimmage (10:00 a.m., CU Sports Complex)
Interested in catching a glimpse of Ed Servais’ 2013 baseball team? Peek your head in at the CU Sports Complex this weekend and watch their fall scrimmage.
Creighton Volleyball @ Evansville (5:00 p.m.)
The Jays are 14-19 all-time against the Aces. Last season, the Jays beat UE 3-0 at home and on the road. Creighton will start the weekend 3-0 in league play, while the Aces enter Friday with a 1-3 mark in the Valley.
Creighton Women’s Soccer vs. Illinois State (7:00 p.m.)
The Bluejays begin Missouri Valley Conference play against the team that embarrassed the Jays last year. In the last regular season match of 2011, the Redbirds beat the Jays 8-1 in Normal. These teams have met in emotional matches during recent seasons, including in 2009 when ISU beat CU in the MVC Tournament championship match 1-0 in Omaha.
Illinois State opened MVC play at Evansville last weekend with a 4-1 loss, sending the Redbirds to 6-3-2 overall entering the weekend.
Creighton Men’s Soccer @ Drake (7:00 p.m.)
What’s going on with the Bluejays soccer team? Consecutive losses to Saint Louis and Tulsa mark the program’s first losing streak of two or more matches since 2010. That team still made the NCAA Tournament, and this team can too. But Elmar Bolowich will need his squad to likely run the table in conference play to position itself for a decent seed in postseason play.
That’s looking too far ahead, though. The Bulldogs must have the Bluejays’ full attention. And Drake is coming off an absolutely brutal match at Memphis, losing 5-0. DU is 1-7-2 entering the weekend.
Sunday (September 30)
Creighton Women’s Golf @ Jackrabbit Fall Invitational (Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Sunday-Monday)
The Jays head north fresh off a sixth-place finish at the SIUE Intercollegiate event. Mary Cathryn Rau led CU and placed 18th overall, while Celeste Gassman was right behind (21st overall).
Creighton Softball vs. Nebraska (1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.)
The fall ball season continues, this weekend against in-state rivals Nebraska. Weather forecast looks great; get down to the CU Sports Complex for some softball!
Monday (October 1)
Creighton Men’s Golf @ Jim Colbert Invitational (Manhattan, Kansas; Monday-Tuesday)
After hosting Drake in Omaha, the Jays will head south to participate in Kansas State’s golf tournament. Colbert Hills Golf Course, the tournament’s venue, is ranked the top public course in Kansas. Good for them.
Creighton Men’s Soccer vs. Loyola-Chicago (7:00 p.m.)
The Jays are 3-0-1 all-time against the Ramblers, with the teams’ last meeting resulting in a 2-0 road win for Creighton in 2010. Loyola is 1-5-1 entering this Saturday’s home match against Milwaukee. Against a similar foe, Drake’s only win of the season thus far came against the Ramblers in Des Moines.
