Meet Peyton Aldridge

The Creighton coaching staff has made it very clear that the Bluejays will still target players that fit the ‘Creighton mold’, i.e. hard-working student athletes driven for success on and off the court.

Enter Peyton Aldridge.

At first glance the 6’7” 200-pound kid from Warren, Ohio is nothing to look at. When you dig deeper it is quickly apparent that he is the true definition of an elite student athlete. Aldridge has been the star quarterback for the LaBrae High since his sophomore year. He excels in the classroom. Last but not least he is an elite basketball talent.

There is one word to sum up Peyton in all these aspects and that word is intelligence. Basketball scouts, football coaches and academics cannot stop raving about his court/field/class IQ. “In the classroom, Peyton has always been an ‘A’ student. And he’s just as smart on the [court]. He makes the right decisions,” said his coaches at LaBrae High to the TribToday.com in August.

There is little wonder as to what attracted the Creighton coaches to the 2014 forward prospect. Creighton has placed an increased value to cerebral players. Aldridge popped up on the Jays radar after a breakout summer with his AAU squad Team Work.

“Good month of July, had a broken jaw, but other than that it’s been real good,” Peyton said in an interview with White and Blue Review. “I attribute all of my recent success to my teammates, they have been putting me in position to excel.”

He’s been one of the breakout players on the AAU scene making a name for himself with his well-rounded game. Peyton averaged 15 ppg, 10 rpg, and over 5 bpg the last season with LaBrae.

As we said before Peyton might not pass the eye test as a high major athlete but the kid has bounce. Pair his sneaky athleticism with his tremendous shooting ability and you have a player with a high ceiling.

“I attempt to model my game after Kevin Durant and Dirk Nowitki,” Aldridge said over the phone. “I see myself playing the 3-4 position in college. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter where the team needs me, I just want to play.”

Schools have taken notice.

“I have offers from all the MAC schools. Creighton, Davidson, Boston College, William & Mary, Belmont have also offered and are high on my list. All the schools who have been talking with me have offered,” Aldridge said.

What’s he looking for in a school?

“I am really looking for a good academic school. I also need to have a good relationship with the coaching staff and the players. Lastly, I want to be apart of a winning program.”

Where does Creighton sit with Aldridge?

“I first started talking with Creighton after a showcase. It was really only a couple weeks ago,” Aldridge said.

“It’s definitely an option,” Aldridge said when asked if he would be coming to Creighton on an official visit.

“I have to have this surgery on my jaw, and then after that, my family is going to sit down and discuss where I’m going to be visiting.”
