Picked ninth in a preseason poll of Big East coaches, a young Bluejays squad instead nearly matched their previous season’s accomplishments, tying for third in the conference and going 20-15 while winning a pair of postseason games before ending the season in the NIT quarterfinals. Sophomores Ty-Shon Alexander (15.7 ppg.) and Mitch Ballock (11.1 ppg.) led the backcourt, while junior Martin Krampelj (13.5 ppg., 6.9 rpg.) recovered from his third anterior cruciate ligament injury and played better than ever, developing into one of the best post players in the Big East. True freshmen Marcus Zegarowski (10.4 ppg.) and Christian Bishop (4.1 ppg.) improved as the season went along, with Zegarowski earning All-Freshman accolades.
The Bluejays earned a 2-seed in the National Invitation Tournament. In the NIT Creighton eliminated Loyola Chicago and Memphis at home before suffering a quarterfinal loss on the road at TCU to end the season with a 20-15 mark.
