March 30, 2008 — Mike Nihsen throws a gem against Illinois State.

Nihsen, a sophomore newcomer to the Bluejays by way of the Nebraska Huskers baseball program, led Creighton to a three-game sweep of the Redbirds. He threw 7 shutout innings of 3-hit baseball, walking no one and striking out a career-best 7. The Bluejays beat Illinois State 5-0.

Nihsen finished 2008 leading the MVC with a 2.30 ERA in 70.1 innings pitched, the third-highest total on the CU staff. Opponents hit just .231 off Nihsen, the second-best average on the team.
