Doug McDermott, Antoine Young Earn All-MVC Honors

We have chronicled Doug McDermott’s phenomenal first season at Creighton, and last week asked if he could make history and earn first-team all-MVC honors as a freshman. He did just that, becoming the first frosh since 1952 to earn inclusion on the all-Valley first team. McDermott joins Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Kyle Weems, UNI’s Kwadzo Ahelegbe, Wichita State’s J.T. Durley, and Bradley’s Andrew Warren on the MVC’s top squad.

Two seasons after making the Valley’s all-Bench team as a freshman, junior Antoine Young gained second team all-Valley honors. He joins Will Creekmore and Jermaine Mallett from Missouri State, Colt Ryan from Evansville, and WSU’s Toure’ Murry on the second team.

McDermott captains the all-Freshman and all-Newcomer teams, having won both the FOY and NOY awards. Joining him on the all-Frosh squad is Creighton’s Jahenns Manigat, who came on strong during the last month of the season. CU’s Gregory Echenique joins McDermott on the all-Newbie team. The sophomore post player also earned all-Defensive team honors, joining Ahelegbe, Mallett, Indiana State’s Jake Odum, and UNI’s Lucas O’Rear on that squad.
