Men's Soccer

Futbol Friday: Presented by Omaha Friendly Services

The Creighton Bluejays men’s soccer team is 12-3-2 and 4-0-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference. After last weekend’s win against Missouri State, the Bluejays hit the road for the final regular season MVC match against Evansville. A Purple Aces win would give Evansville a tie for the Valley championship. If the Jays can win or tie, CU will earn yet another Valley title. We caught up with head coach Elmar Bolowich to break down the team’s recent results and Saturday’s match in Indiana.

WBR: Tell us a bit about your team’s match last week against Missouri State. What did you take away from the win?

EB: Well, I thought that we completely dominated the game but it did not reflect in the final score. I wanted to see our guys finish more up front. I really wanted to put it away.

WBR: As you are getting closer to the postseason, what would be the area you are really looking to improve on?

EB: I would say it is something we have been working on all year, and that’s putting people away. There have been too many games that we have been up one or two goals but can’t get that third goal to really finish someone off. When you keep it close, you are giving the opponent an opportunity to tie or beat you. We need to see better finishing up front.

WBR: Tell us a bit about Evansville, your opponent this weekend. What’s one specific area of their game that you’ve had to focus on heading into the match?

EB: They are playing for a lot tomorrow. If they are able to get the win, they will finish in a tie for first place in the Valley and they will get a bye as well. They will also be playing for a lot of pride, as they did not make the MVC Tournament last season and have a chance to finish first a year later. The one area I guess would be their midfield play and their ability to counter quickly. This should be a fun game.

WBR: Last week we talk about Alex [Bolowich] hopefully being health in about a week. How is his progress and are there any other injuries of note?

EB: He will be cleared to return to practice on Monday. We will see how his training goes next week and if he is ready. Besides that, everyone else is good to go.
